You work all week or two weeks, or a month only to find on Payday that the IRS has levied your pay.
How much can they legally levy? All of it if you are self-employed! All of it if you are commission salesman, realtor, doctor, lawyer, candlestick maker, or anyone else receiving 1099 income where taxes are generally not withheld.
If you receive a W-2 all will be taken EXCEPT an amount equal to the sum of your exemptions and your standard deduction. For a single person that is about $156 per week. THAT IS THE AMOUNT YOU GET, NOT THE IRS. IRS GETS THE REST!
