Tale of Two Fools or How to Beat the IRS
Two fools, patriots, tax protestors, IRS enemies, heroes or any other descriptions you care to use. Let's talk about them separately what went wrong what went right with the Internal Revenue Service.
Cool Jack- Cool never filed yet he made mega bucks working jobs just not having anything withheld from his pay. He had decided long ago that he didn't have to pay income tax so he didn't. Twenty years rolls by with nary a word from the boys and girls at the IRS. Then a while back, probably due to Internal Revenue Service matching efforts, they caught up with my client - to - be, Cool Jack. Now Cool easily recognized the jig was up. The same questions tax protestors and non-filers always ask me. Am I going to prison? Can they prosecute me? Why are they picking on me when there are much larger tax protestors out there? (As a side note, a tax protestor knows they are evading their taxes, they understand the rules as enforced by the IRS, Treasury, and the Courts. Now is not the time to plead ignorance or constitutional rights.)
Cool Jack was a practical man and hired me. He was extremely intelligent, perceptive and wise. How do I know? Because he followed my instructions and advice. Owing over a million is definitely cause for the Government to prosecute, but it wasn't that way. File the last six years, we will take the levy off if you give us financials. Cool Jack provided the necessary paper, and followed my advice. He was granted currently not collectible status and his offer will be accepted this month for a tiny fraction of what the IRS claims he owes. Cool Jack's debt disappears and I am rather sad about it. Sure he is my client, but us honest taxpayers not only made up what he didn't pay over the years, but also financed his offer evaluations at the IRS.
So Cool Jack wins. Randy makes some money, the IRS gets some money. Who really lost? EVERYBODY ELSE. Makes me want to adopt his methods. Why should I pay if he didn't? But then I think about Dumb Dumber, my other client.
Dumb Dumber is determined rather than practical. He is determined to irritate the IRS until the earth stops spinning. He also hired me, but did not follow my advice. It is always a mystery to me as to why someone pays money to find out what to do, and then does the opposite. Similar scenario with Cool Jack, but Dumb Dumber knows he is smarter than everyone else. You would think he was a lawyer. Dumb hires me then won't let me do my job and save his butt. He had frivolous return penalties, filed ridiculous returns and did everything he could to irritate the boys and girls. Well at least at that effort he succeeded. He probably owed a million or more, but was determined to PROVE the IRS had no right to any money. That is a path to the slammer. He isn't there yet, but everything he has is levied. The IRS has assigned a Revenue Officer (never a good thing) and Dumb isn't cooperating which makes me look bad. I probably will have to resign the case, but hopefully I can talk some sense into Mr. I reallywanttomeetbubbainprison before he self-destructs. He forgot the most important thing about the IRS - The Internal Revenue Service doesn't care if you ever pay, but you cannot rub their face in it.
So if you are wondering why I am posting this see tomorrow's post on-
Why The Internal Revenue Service is to blame for all tax problems.
Read it, you will be convinced.
